Beatrix Potter

The release of The Lonely Zebra story has me thinking20160409_125828
about other children’s stories about animals. So I’ve started reading Beatrix Potter’s books for the first time. I don’t know how but I don’t remember reading them when I was a kid. There was also a great 90s series starring Niamh Cusack which I’m catching up on.

Needless to say I think the stories  are charming! I love how innocent they are, and they are accessible for adults too, and the stories remain engaging despite some of the old references. She had a good way of telling a story whilst giving personal touches for the reader that were insights into her own life, imagination and influences. There is a special Peter Rabbit coin out in the UK this year and it’s a fitting tribute to Potter’s work.

My favourite story so far is The Tale of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, and my favourite character is Jemima Puddle-Duck. To anyone who knows the story about 20160407_183204Jemima Puddle-Duck, it does make me feel rather guilty though every time I collect eggs from our ducks at home!

Do you have a favourite Beatrix Potter story? What do you like about them?
