Here are two of my favourite quotes from two of my favourite fantasy series EVER.
In Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time, every person is a ‘thread in the pattern’, meaning all have a part to play in what is happening in the world, and are capable of extraordinary things, and some things are beyond our control. “The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills” is a little like talking about God’s will.
In The Lord of the Rings, Bilbo’s words to Frodo speak of adventure. Yes, the direction of it is the choice of the person whose feet are walking it, but only to an extent. “If you don’t keep them (your feet)” says Bilbo, “There’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

Does your life feel like an adventure? I hope so (assuming you want it to!). I’d like mine to more than it sometimes does. But maybe it depends on where we walk, and how we approach life’s journey. We are all a part of something bigger, and we all have a part to play in the world for good or evil. Sometimes things are beyond our control and we are affected by external influences, but what excites me most is the internal influence within me: the Holy Spirit.
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.
-Jesus said this in John chapter 3 verse 8
If you know Jesus, his Spirit lives in you too. You can try to ‘keep your feet’ and order your steps all you like, but I’m learning it’s better to just let them go where they are led. I guy I know once did this and ended up travelling from England to Bosnia, and had a great story to tell after that! I trust that I will have more stories of my own to tell as time goes on – as I learn to trust in myself less and God more, I mean.
Where will your feet take you today?
