“You give them something to eat”

ImageIn the part of Leeds where I live most people seem like they have everything they need. Look a bit closer however and the picture is not so good. 1 in 5 people in Britain alone are living in poverty. Many people are going without daily meals, often through no fault of their own, and the economic situation is not going to improve any time soon. This is where foodbanks come in.

I am really excited to be part of the foodbanks that are springing up around Leeds, and to be doing our part in our corner of the city. The Trussell Trust specialise in helping churches create foodbanks. They give emergency food to those who need it, not to create dependency but to help people overcome one or more crises and to help them journey to the other side. Once when thousands of people were going hungry, Jesus said to his disciples “You give them something to eat.” This is what he is telling us to do, and I can’t wait until we are open and actually doing it. Lives are going to change and in more ways than one!Image
